Rushlake Green Village Post Office needs our help

Can you think of any funding source that could help our local post office move into the village shop? As part of the arrangement for taking over 'The Stores', it was agreed that the post office would move into main shop. However, we understand that Post Office Ltd has now indicated that it will only provide funds to help pay for the relocation if the post office is re-categorised as 'local', which would mean virtually no financial support for the sub post mistress, Sandy. Shopkeeper Paul Hammond is obviously determined to keep arrangements for Sandy as they are. But, that means finding all the money required to pay for the relocation. If you know of any potential sources of grants or funding that could help with the relocation, please send us details and we will forward them on.

Swimming Pool planning permission granted

A new swimming pool for Heathfield moved a step closer last month when East Sussex County Council approved the planning application. This now gives a green light to the campaign to raise the money to build the pool. The County Council planning committee praised the proposals for the new swimming pool, with improved leisure and fitness facilities, which would be built on the Heathfield Community College site. The 'Swimming Pool for Heathfield' partnership is also in negotiation with the DCMS Government Olympic Executive to become the site for one of the relocatable pools as part of the 2012 Olympic Legacy.

Olympic Torch comes to Crowborough

The Olympic Torch Relay is due to pass through Crowborough on Tuesday 17th July. The Convoy arrives at Crowborough at just after 12.00 noon. Peter, Ray, Bobbie and Bob entertain the locals

Once again, our local festival at the Hop Farm, Paddock Wood, offered a line-up to rival many much larger gigs, but without the mud. While thousands were wallowing on the Isle of Wight, a much more civilised gathering was being entertained by Peter Gabriel, Joan Aramatrading, Randy Crawford, Ray Davies, The Stranglers, Suede, Richard Ashcroft, Primal Scream - and some guy called Robert Zimmerman. Our favourite this year was Ray Davies, happy to trot out all the Kinks classics and still very much the rebel. Primal scream were also reassuringly raucous. Once again this unique festival, which refuses all corporate sponsorship, was a brilliant gem right on our doorstep. http://hopfarmfestival.com/gallery/hop-farm-2012-artists
