HOW TO LOOK AFTER THE BIRDS IN YOUR GARDEN
The Winter is a hard time for the birds in our garden so we have to help them through these cold months by making sure they have the right kind of food.

BLACKBIRDS THRUSHES ROBINS DUNNOCKS WRENS.
These are ground feeders. They eat Mealworm Crumble mix which contains good fuel for them. A mix of dried mealworms, suet, oatmeal, sunflower kernels, oats, maize, crushed peanuts. Also they like grated cheese, dried fruit and of course live mealworms. What they do not like is seed containing wheat or black sunflower seeds. They will also eat fat balls that have been crumbled up. ( or use an old potato masher

BLUE TITS/ GREAT TITS/ OTHER MEMBERS OF THE SAME FAMILY, NUTHATCHS, WOODPECKERS.
These birds eat from hanging feeders and birdtables. They love peanuts, fat balls and mealworm crumble. Suet squares

GOLDFINCHES GREENFINCHES
These birds love sunflower seeds.

STARLINGS SPARROWS.
These birds will eat anything.

You will find a good selection of feeders and bird tables at Garden centres and Pet shops. These include peanut feeders, window feeders, fat ball feeders, suet square holders, sunflower seed feeders and ground feeders. Also good quality bird food of high nutritional value. Some supermarkets also provide this.

It is very important that you also supply water to drink and to bathe.

A very important factor is to make sure you keep all feeders clean to avoid spreading of disease. A good wash out with warm soapy water and a bottle brush works very well. This needs to be done a couple of times a week.

Good Luck and happy bird watching
