Post Office - How can we keep it open?

It's been brought to our attention that some of the changes in the Postal Services Bill, currently going through Parliament, could have dire consequences for our village sub post office in Rushlake Green, and other similarly modest sites around the Country. It appears that, under the new legislation, those now deemed ‘local’ sub post offices could lose most of their basic allowance, will not be able to sell some products, and might have to use their own cash for transactions. If true, this would mean ‘local’ sub post offices, unless heavily subsidised by an associated retail business, would simply not be able to keep going. So the net result may be that many will close – not by being ‘closed-down’ but by being rendered unsustainable. For small villages like Rushlake Green, loss of the post office would be devastating, particularly for the many older people living in and around the village, who rely on this important local service. We will provide more information when we get it.
