Local interpretations

'Not to be missed - ends 11th December - A wonderful collection of inspirational creative work, in an enchanting setting . . . '

Painter Chris Liddiard and other local artists such as photographer Yao Sullivan (see photo top of page) from Warbleton and jeweller Karen Holbrook feature in the Art Barn Christmas Exhibition brought together by Karen at Coopers Farm in Wartling from December 3rd to 11th. For more details of this and another December Art exhibition (at Alfriston) click here.

Local delicacies

The team in the Rushlake Green Stores have been working overtime to source a great selection of local produce for Christmas and the New Year. In addition to locally produced Bronze Turkeys, sausages, and mince pies, The Stores now stocks a new line of hand-cooked frozen meals and sauces from local duo Mel and Lucy of Pink Cabbage. According to Adele, favourites such as Steak and Ale Pie, Ragu Lasagne and Macaroni Cheese as well as the range of signature sauces, having been in big demand already. Also new for Christmas is a range of delicious sweets and cakes from Mi Amor Treats. For details of shop opening hours etc. Click here

Pink Cabbage - a deliciously local enterprise

It started with cooking for friends and groups of locals, it grew into a supper club, and now it’s a thriving local business offering hand-cooked frozen meals in local shops (including our very own Rushlake Green Stores) and a catering business – and the supper club goes from strength to strength. The Pink Cabbage Frozen Feasts are preservative and additive free, using ‘kitchen cupboard ingredients’, and wherever possible, ingredients are sourced locally. You can try the meals at The Stores, Rushlake Green, or to find out more about the Supper Club and Catering Business Click here

Mi Amor Treats - the sweet taste of success

Another story of local entrepreneurial zest is Mi Amor Treats. A local business making handmade, home-baked cakes and sweets. They now produce everything from Cup Cakes and traditional Brownies and Fudge Cake to custom orders for children’s parties and catering requirements. Look out for Mi Amor Treats in the Rushlake Green village Stores. For more info and contact details Click here

Woolcraft from Wensleydale

Julia Desch, now fully ensconsed in Bodle Street, is keen to sug gest that we all "buy British this Christmas with beautiful handknits, craft pieces, yarns and spinners' TOPS all from Woolcraft wit h Wensleydale - our Pedigree flock of Black Wensleydales - produced locally and ethically". She adds: "We also have Peglooms and puzzles for children and lots of other temptations". Click here for more details.

Mows and Goes

Chris Waddington specialises in no-nonsense grass cutting, hedge cutting and garden clearance, and he takes the green waste with him when he departs. For full details of Mow and Go, Click here.

Tone Control

The Lotte Berk Method has, we are told, been called the ultimate body transformation system. Find out for yourself. From her studio in Dallington, Fiona Vestentoft offers daily Lotte Berk excercise classes that will "improve your shape, strength, tpne, flexibiity and balance . . ." For more details see Fiona's entry in the Health and Wellbeing section Green Pages under 'Excericise Classes', where there's also a link to her website. Click here.

Putting Pressure on Southern Water

Villagers at the southern end of Back Lane are up in arms at the failure of East Sussex CC and Southern Water to take reasonable steps to camouflage the very obvious and ugly Pumping Station that is an eyesore for everyone entering our village. Southern Water failed to comply with the original Planning Consent and now East Sussex CC has agreed a Retrospective Application that locals feel does not include provision for adequate measures to comply with the requirements for an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Mike and Carole Smythe, of The Old Barn, are organising a protest group to encourage Southern Water to conform to the rules that every property owner would be expected to adhere to. They would be grateful for the support of anyone who feels equally strongly that the beauty of the approach to the village is seriously affected by the Pumping Station. Growing wintry

Warr Hol

It never ceases to amaze us how the De La Warr pavilion at Bexhill-on-Sea manages to attract such heavyweight exhibitions. 'Warhol Is Here', which continues until Feb next year, explores the work of Andy Warhol in the context of his beliefs, lifestyle and his legacy for the 21st century - which is considerable.
