Our summer programme of speakers is set to interest, intrigue and educate with June’s offering of Rasputin – Angel or Devil by Colin Brown followed in July by Janie Ramsey’s talk on antiques For What It’s Worth. September brings Sir Jeremy Cooke, the High Court judge, who will speak on Rough Justice. Our May meeting will be dedicated to discussing the campaign resolution Mental Health Matters which has been selected by W.I. members this year.

The Women’s Institute is the largest pressure group in the UK and has a long history of campaigning on a wide range of issues that matter to women and their communities, from urging Government to open up jury service to all in 1921 to lobbying for increased funding for research into honey bee health in 2009. We have helped bring about some important changes in Government policy and legislation. Rushlake Green has already been entertained by some excellent speakers so far in 2018 ranging from contributors from St. Wilfrid’s Hospice, Eastbourne and Jo Broad, the Heathfield optometrist, to the crop-circle man, Andy Thomas, and the very entertaining the Dowager Lady Crabtree. As well as our varied and stimulating programme of speakers and demonstrators, we enjoy monthly lunches out at local eateries and an afternoon craft session, visits to the cinema, theatre and places of interest plus any seasonal excuse for a good meal, chat and get-together at our Spring Social, Summer Lunch and Christmas Dinner events. Every meeting, of course, includes our delicious, trademark home-made refreshment break.

So, if you would like a taster of Rushlake Green W.I., just turn up on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7.30pm in the Dunn Village Hall or ring our President Judy Piper on 01435 812589 or our Secretary Helen Porter on 01435 830047. We are a friendly group of interesting women and warmly welcome any new visitors.
