The Guy Fawkes celebrations, organised by the Warbleton and Rushlake Green Bonfire Society make a welcome return on Saturday 18th October. The event kicks off, on The Green, at 6.30pm with a programme clearly designed to be very family friendly. A big novelty will be that the bonfire itself will actually be on the Green with the fireworks, launched from a safe site nearby, lighting up the sky in spectacular fashion. We understand there will even be a laser show. Wow. There will also be plenty of other fun activities including a Guy competition (see below), a ‘guess the weight of the pumpkin’ challenge, face painting and a raffle. Hot drinks and snacks will be available from the Village Stores with Tony promising to keep the shop open for the festivities, and food and drinks galore from the Horse & Groom. A road closure, along the side of the green, has been arranged so that grown-ups and kids can move between these various activities in safety.

The organisers are hoping to attract lots of people from Rushlake Green and the surrounding communities. Clearly parking will be limited and will probably end up stretching some way down Cowbeech road. The advice is to wear sensible footwear and bring a flashlight for negotiating darkened verges. And come to the event on foot if practicable.
Remember to bring some cash, which you’ll need for things like facing painting, pumpkin weight guessing, raffle etc as there will be no card machines on the green itself. Cash donations always welcome to support this free-to-attend firework celebration, entirely organised and run by local volunteers who invest their time to make this evening such a brilliant community event..
Entries for the best dressed Guy competition to be delivered to Rushlake Green at 4pm on the 18th October. Best three Guys will win a prize.
