Sunday 2nd June – Rushlake Green’s annual street party style celebration. As always there’ll be an outstanding line up of entertainments, and an amazing array of classic vehicles. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a picnic either at the commununal 100m long table, or lounging across the green. Here’s a message from the organisers:
Rushlake Green held their first Big Lunch in 2015 as part of the national scheme started by The Eden Project to encourage communities throughout the UK to come together and strengthen ties and friendships within their local area. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, 2nd June from 12 noon when neighbours will have the chance to picnic, meet up with friends old and new, chat, laugh, share fun and companionship and celebrate what makes our community special – the people!
Since our first Big Lunch the afternoon has become an important annual event in the village – just bring along a picnic and chair/rug and enjoy marvellous music from the Warbleton Brass Band and the Yum Yums, a wonderful classic vehicle display on the Green and free tea, coffee and cake.
All of this is completely free of charge thanks to the generosity of our entertainers who perform without charge. We shall be holding a charity raffle in aid of East Sussex Vision Support with amazing prizes donated by local traders, including a cash prize of £100! East Sussex Vision Support (ESVS) was established in 1921 providing vital services to blind and partially sighted people living within East Sussex, Brighton and Hove. Their aim is to increase the independence, confidence and wellbeing of blind and partially sighted people, whilst also promoting understanding of sight loss in local communities. They currently have over 1,350 clients and their support network includes social groups, outings, home visits, assistance with benefit claims, training and help with equipment, lighting and home safety, and much needed emotional support. As well as a telephone helpline there is an IT service enabling clients to access online banking, shopping, communication, news, books, music and other internet facilities. All of their programmes need urgent funding and any support you can give will help to enrich lives and provide opportunities that would not be available without ESVS.
